Beautiful Ngai Tahu Pounamu Genuine Greenstone Māori Whale Tail Protector Necklace
The whale is a spiritual guardian to Māori, so this Ngai Tahu pounamu whale tail necklace is a beautiful symbol of protection to wear.
The genuine NZ greenstone whale tail necklace is stunning, with its polished surface, intricately bound top, and beautifully detailed carving. It hangs from a long black plaited cord, with adjustable knots.
The whale tail measures approximately 4.5cm x 4cm (1 3/4" x 1 1/2").
The necklace is made from Ngai Tahu pounamu, in Hokitika, New Zealand. Each Ngai Tahu greenstone necklace comes with a unique code. Entering that code into a website brings up the source of the stone, including a photo of the rock it was made from, and details of where it was carved.
The piece shown in my photos is made from Kawakawa greenstone, the darkest and strongest form of Pounamu. Its colour ranges from a medium green to a dark forest green, and it is typically not translucent. It is named for the native kawakawa plant, which is traditionally used for its culinary and medicinal properties.
Endless combinations of Pounamu types occur, and no two pieces are the same, guaranteeing that your Pounamu is unique.
